Our history

1987 : The adventure begins

Albert Moux and Shell Pacific Co. merge and create Polypétroles & Shell in French Polynesia.

1988 : The storage challenge

Construction of the first land based fuel storage depot in Tahiti (French Polynesia), with a capacity of 33,150 million litres, inaugurated in December 1989.

1990: First gas station in French Polynesia

The first Shell gas station is commissioned, on the Papeete west exit road. Particularly innovative through its design and signposting (outdoor totem pole), it is also the first gas station to offer a retail store.

1991/1998:  Expansion

7 new Shell gas stations open in Tahiti and the Islands: Papara (1991), Prince Hinoï-Papeete (1992), Papeari (1993), Raiatea (1994), Outumaoro (1996), Moorea (1998), Arue (1998) and opening of the first Shell marine station in Tahiti at the Arue Yacht Club (1997).

1999/2002: Environment and Safety

The supply by drums in the atolls is ended and the first itinerant station is launched in 1999.

In 2002, for the first time, the whole refueling of jet A1 is conducted by Cubitainers and by truck (Hao- Tuamotu Archipelago)

2000/2004 A consolidated presence in French Polynesia

New Shell service stations open in Mahina (2002) and Rangiroa (2004)

2003/2005 Extension and renovation of the storage site

The storage capacity is doubled to reach 61.150 million liters. The existing tanks are refurbished. The head office in Fare Ute is built.

October 2006 South Pacific expansion

In an international tender process launched by the Shell Group, Albert Moux and a group of South Pacific businessmen acquire the Shell assets in French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Vanuatu. Polypétroles & Shell becomes Pacific Petroleum & Services within the Pacific Energy group, the first Polynesian oil group in the Pacific.

2007 The growth in Vanuatu

Expansion of the group with the acquisition of the assets of Mobil in Vanuatu. The first service station under the “Pacific” brand is opened.

2008: Optimization of the supply in Vanuatu.

A 2 kms long pipeline between the port of Port Vila and the Pacific Energy depot is delivered, allowing direct supply by 45,000 tons oil tankers.

May 2010: Rapid growth

Winning another international tender process, Pacific Energy continues its expansion with the acquisition of the assets of the BP group in 7 new countries; Fiji, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook, Kiribati and Vanuatu.

June 2010: Consolidation

Acquisition of the Shell assets in Papua New Guinea.

March 2011: Opening of the first gas station under the “Pacific” brand in Fiji

2013/2015: Development of operations in Papua New Guinea.

2014: Pacific Energy supplies the Solomon Islands.
